Sculpey UltraLight Spring Trio

Switch Plate, Napkin Ring, and Votive Holder

Materials:

  • Sculpey UltraLight and Sculpey III Sunshine
  • Card stock to work on and bake on
  • Standard switch plate cover
  • Sculpey Super Slicer Sculpey
  • Acyrlic Clay Roller
  • White craft glue
  • Straw or toothpick (to poke a hole with)
  • Rubber stamping ink - Supplied by Ancient Page
    • Lime
    • Canary
    • Palm Leaf
  • Assorted foam rubber stamps and a decorative rubber stamp with fine detail
  • 2 pieces 12" Ribbon in a coordinating color
  • Baby wipes

Directions:

1. Spread a thin layer of white craft glue over the front surface of the switch plate cover. Allow to dry completely.

2. While the glue is drying, condition Sculpey UltraLight until smooth and even in consistency. Roll the UltraLight (UL) out into a sheet that is large enough to cover the switch plate cover. Lay the UL over the glued area and smooth it into place. Trim the excess away with the Super Slicer. Cut out the toggle switch hole and poke holes in the screw holes.

3. From UL roll out another sheet. Cut out 2 long strips measuring approximately 1-1/2" X 6".

4. Using canary ink first and a foam rubber stamp, stamp the background of the two strips and the switch plate cover. Leave some white space between the yellow images. Next, using a different foam rubber stamp and the lime ink, stamp in the white areas and overlapping the yellow. You do not have to be concerned with producing exact images with the foam stamps. Even partial images look nice for this background effect.

5. Using the detailed rubber ink stamp and the Palm Leaf ink, stamp over the background colors. Poke little holes at each end of the long strips for the ribbon that will be tied on after baking.

6. Roll tiny balls of Sculpey Sunshine and place these in groupings of three on top of the stamped images. If you wish you can sprinkle dark green embossing powder over the clay pieces.

7. Bake at 275 for 15 minutes. Once cool, your switch plate cover is ready for installation. Bend both of the long strips into a loop and tie both ends together by inserting the ribbon through the small holes.

These can serve as either votive covers or napkin rings.
